Strength and Conditioning

Learn how structured strength and conditioning training can enhance performance, and how to provide this training in the gym or on the pitch.

Structured strength and conditioning is becoming increasingly integrated into soccer at all levels, and for good reason. A well-planned, targeted programme can improve players’ performance in training and during matches, leading to better quality training sessions and more opportunity for success on match-days. This is why many clubs employ specialist strength and conditioning coaches to work with the players in advanced and expensive club gyms, and with coaches during training sessions, to try and maximise player performance and ultimately be more successful.

There is a large amount of research around strength and conditioning, training and physiological adaptations within soccer. So how do we determine what is right for our players?

This section will explore some practical interventions for both gym and on-pitch sessions that aim to improve players performance. There will be example sessions provided, and detailed analysis and explanation of how you can manipulate these sessions to suit your players individual needs.
